Thiruvalla is is a town on the western border of Pathanamthitta District and it also the headquarters of the taluk of same name located in Pathanamthitta district in the State of Kerala, India. It is located 31 kilometers towards west from district head quarters Pathanamthitta . It is in the border of the Pathanamthitta district, Alappuzha district and Kottayam district. The nearby towns of Thiruvalla are Kottayam, Chengannur , Changanassery and Mavelikkara.

The ancient name of Thiruvalla was "Valla vai". The name had some relation with the river Manimala which was known as "Vallapuzha". The mouth is known as "Valla vai". Thiruvalla town is spread over an area of 27.94 kms. It lies on the banks of the rivers Manimala and Pamba, and is a land-locked region surrounded by irrigating streams and rivers. Formerly some areas of present Changanacherry were parts of Thiruvalla. Now the boundaries of the taluk are Varattar Bridge on the south, Lappalam on the north, Pullad on the east and Edathua on the west.

Thiruvalla is regarded as the "Land of Non resident Indians" as it has a large Non-Resident Indian Community. Studies suggest people migrate due to economical, social, political and environmental reasons.

Thiruvalla is famous for its various religious festivals, education establishments and medical colleges and hospitals. Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital and Believers Church Medical College Hospital are two of the reputed medical colleges and hospitals located in this town. It is also the location of Nedumpuram Palace and Paliakkara Palace.

Niranam is a church that is said to be one of the seven churches founded by St Thomas and is around 2,000 years old. It is also believed that the great poet Kannassa Panicker wrote his main poetic works close to this spot.
